I’m a Japanese artist, born in Tokyo, Japan in 1978, currently live and work in Yokohama, Tokyo. Now I’m staying in Taipei, Taiwan.
I graduated from Musashino Art University in Tokyo with a BFA in 2009 and an MFA in 2011.
For my artistic practice, I make installations, performance and video art works exhibited in Japan mostly. My art is about trying to understand the essence of human emotions and feelings. Especially I’m interested in emotions and feelings people have through communication with someone very close.
I usually make my art works by combining science, narrative and psychology.
About currently my projects
Currently I have two projects. One is combined science and psychology. Another is combined narrative and psychology. Of course, I conduct these approaches in order to understand emotions and feelings.
The former’s goal is understanding with emotions and feelings of people who have on communication with someone very close. This approach is based on analysis of human brain wave to convert human emotions and feelings. I already made a analysis machine of human brain wave by myself and I conducted using my machine for some people.
For example I tried to use the machine for my parents. They had some problems on communication for a long time. I set the machine on the table which they always used in their house. Using the machine, they talked together about negative and positive things between them. This experiment was failed, because my father was angry.
I continue improving the machine and this approach.
The latter’s goal is understanding and sympathy with emotions and feelings of people in communication with someone very close. This approach is based on archives of the people. So I did interview them and take photos and videos.
For example, In recent years, a theme of narrative approach is around “long term elderly care. I am interested in this topic because I took care of our grandparents at home; grandfather for 3 years and grandmother for 10 years.
In researching on long term elderly care, I knew that (1)Taiwan’s population was already aging, (2)number of elderly care-giver was not enough and (3)cost of elderly care was higher. In short, I thought that long term elderly care was Taiwan’s important social problem as well as Japan’s. So I’m conducting a research on Taiwan’s long term elderly care.
To solve (2) and (3), Many foreign people work for long term elderly care worker(care-giver). Usually they live in the house where they take care of elder(care-given) on 24 hours with care-given family.
Care-giver and care-given’s family get many mental stresses. That’s because most elder who care-giver take care of have dementia and that causes these stresses with dis-communications.
I stayed in Taipei(Taipei Artist Village) from January to March in 2019. I was selected as one of five artists by City of Yokohama to participate in exchange program between Yokohama and Taipei. I felt fortunate to have this opportunity to conduct a research on Taiwan’s long term elderly care. I went to more than 15 long term elderly care centers(在台北, 新台北市, 桃園縣, 新竹縣, 宜蘭縣, 花蓮縣和台東縣) and individual house to interview foreign care workers.
I displayed four of all videos in the gallery of Taipei Artist Village.
I continue conducting this project in Taiwan.
Finally, I’d like to be combine two projects.
I’d like to do research on California’s long term elderly care and I’d like to use my machine for care-giver, care-given and care-given people. Then I try to improve mental problems of long term elderly care which they have.
I’d also like discuss emotions and feelings people have through communication with someone very close(the theme is about mental problems of long term elderly care) with many people. For the discussion, the people(Of course including me) may get hints to improve any mental problems of long term elderly care.
